Miguel Berrocal (Villanueva de Algaidas, 28 September 1933 – Antequera, 31 May 2006) was a Spanish sculptor and artist also known as the sculptor of puzzles, due to the particularity of his sculptures.
From a young age, he was interested in a system of dismountable and combinatorial sculpture that characterized all his subsequent sculptural work. In it there is a constant search for new concepts and unknown spaces within it, allowing the viewer to penetrate the world of construction and deconstruction. Berrocal's work upsets the traditional notion of sculpture, surpassing the contemporary concept. His dismountable sculpture allows the intrusion of the internal form to the outside, the sculpture is made from the inside and for the inside; for the first time the sculpture is stripped of its surface to reveal its most hidden part.
