The chest can be defined as the forerunner of the modern wardrobe, that is, as a capacious piece of furniture suitable for storing tools, clothes and various objects. Our example is of extraordinary executive skill, entirely sculpted and carved in walnut wood, animated by a vast ornamental sampling typical of the morphological/stylistic lexicon of the time.
The imposing bulk of the chest assumes a markedly sculptural connotation in correspondence with the four corners masterfully sculpted with volutes with human endings and in the four bestial feet that raise it from the ground.
In the center stands a noble coat of arms (framed by winged female figures and crowned by the face of a cherub) intended to symmetrically divide the prospect of the chest into two mirrors, each of which containing a refined bas-relief with plant racemes. The sides, on the other hand, are delineated by smooth mirrors designed to enhance the beautiful veins of the wood essence used.
The rest is an ornamental triumph underlined by current theories of ovals, nailings and other very fine carvings.
