Elegant and rare noble chest from the 16th century, architecturally inspired by Roman sarcophagi. It features a lid with raised frames in the center (as in urns), while the body of the piece, with its typical rectangular parallelepiped shape, rests on sculpted leonine feet, traditionally crafted in a naturalistic style. This beautiful chest has a front with a projecting central coat of arms enclosed within relief cartouches, bearing heraldic symbols attributable to the historic Chigi family of Sienese origin from the 14th century. Equally typical of these noble artifacts, generally wedding chests of medieval derivation, are the "organ pipe" carvings of auspicious significance. On the frontal corners of the chest, two caryatids, of feminine appearance, are carved and sculpted in "high relief" and "in the round."
Excellent state of preservation, absolute originality.
