"AUTUMN LANDSCAPE" -------
attributed to Giovanni Segantini (Arco 1858-Switzerland 1899) --------
Oil on panel ----------
Period: late nineteenth century -------
Oil on fir panel.--------
Measures 34 x 20 ------ with contemporary frame 56 x 43 ---------
This splendid sketch painted in oil on panel in the last quarter of the nineteenth century is attributed to Giovanni Segantini, father of Divisionism and an extremely fascinating figure in late 19th-century painting. ---------
In fact, it is a small and decidedly intriguing gem, which is easily compared to some small works by the great Master. ----------
The brushstrokes are distributed with considerable knowledge of the optical effect, which supports the hypothesis that the painting is by the major protagonist of Divisionism. ----------
The panel is still complete with its original frame. ------------
The use of the wooden background, left free and used as a color to highlight the small brushstrokes, is also very interesting and effective.
