One of the peculiarities of "Marble Inlays" is the juxtaposition of different pieces with great precision, so as to make the joints almost invisible.
Marble opus sectile.
Opus sectile is considered one of the most refined and prestigious marble ornamentation techniques, both for the materials used (among the rarest and therefore most expensive marbles) and for the difficulty of its realization, having to section the marble into very thin sheets ("crustae"), model it with great precision and use the most diverse qualities of marble to obtain the desired chromatic effects.
It differs from mosaic in that it does not use small geometric tiles (opus tessellatum or even opus vermiculatum, due to the very small tiles arranged according to the contours of the figures).
Opus sectile instead sculpts larger pieces, chosen for the color, opacity, brilliance and shades of the veins, plus a figurative design.
