Small gilded silver tankard, a rare and splendid piece of German silverware, entirely covered with silver coins.
These are Thalers from the Duchy of Saxony, minted in the late 16th century with the portrait of the three brothers who inherited from Duke Christian I, who were still children at the time of his death in 1591. Therefore, the three brothers Christian II, Johan Georg I, and August were initially under the guardianship of Friedrich Wilhelm of Saxony until 1601.
They are an incredible series of antique coins, already of great historical value in their own right.
Some, of larger size, are dated 1597 and 1600.
The precious artifact is in excellent condition, and the lid is still hinged with the original joint.
It bears several hallmarks on both the body and the lid.
