Gustav Klingert (1865-1916) Biography
Gustav Klingert, originally from Germany, began his career working as a master for Fabergé. In 1865 he founded his factory in Moscow employing over 20 artisans. In 1889 he exhibited at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, where his works were a huge success. Four years later, at the World's Fair in Chicago, Klingert was recognized as one of Russia's most important goldsmiths. Thanks to the great success, the company began exporting its works to the United States through Tiffany & Co. In 1896 Gustav Klingert was granted the Imperial Warrant.
After Gustav's retirement, the business was continued by his sons, until it was forced to close due to the outbreak of the Russian Revolution.
The company specialized in the production of gilded silver, cloisonné, and champlevé. Until 1899, Klingert marked his objects with the Latin characters GK. Later, the sons used the Cyrillic script.
