Venini blown glass hourglass designed by Paolo Venini and Fulvio Bianconi probably in 1957, characterized by the soft pink-taupe color, a rare color and now out of production.
Dimensions: Height 20 cm Diameter 8 cm
In good condition.
The hourglasses designed by Venini and Bianconi were created using the complex glass technique of incalmo, a technique of combining different colors of glass welded together while hot in order to create a single blown piece with distinct colors. It should be emphasized, and this reinforces the value of the object on display, that only certain colors can be combined with this technique, as each color has its own cooling characteristics which, of course, must be compatible, otherwise the different tensions would end up breaking the created object.
Venini has always distinguished itself from other glass producers for its style and the uniqueness of its colors, and to achieve the particular Murano Glass coloration, Venini glass vases must carefully coexist in all ingredients. These traditional glass production techniques are sometimes secret and are the result of artisanal savoir-faire passed down from generation to generation.
Through the words of the designers themselves, we can grasp the poetics behind the hourglasses: "These blown glass hourglasses let the sand inside slowly spread, as if it were in eternal equilibrium between today and yesterday."
