This kilim has clear references to French Aubusson carpets. In fact, they were woven in the Caucasus Mountains to satisfy the requests of Russian nobles, who were enchanted by the Aubusson carpets that had been donated to the Tsar by the kings of France. Little by little, however, the original light background color was replaced by an intense dark color: brown or black, which greatly highlights the design of the roses. The effect is truly surprising, if you consider that this kilim was woven in a simple dwelling in the Caucasus Mountains. Certainly, the design was commissioned and executed with a similar one as a model. The design was later also used in Balkan carpets. I am available for furnishing advice.
I have seen some used on a table or sofa in England. ------------ ACTIVITY closing
