Mixed media with pencil, charcoal and slight highlights in white lead on cardboard, dimensions cm. 50 x 70, signature in the lower left corner.
The highly original composition represents a city of skyscrapers and complex viaducts, articulated in a complex scenario of machines and enormous productive gears; at the center of all this, sitting above the mouth of a tunnel that seems to swallow a river into the belly of the city, an ironic little man fishes solitarily with his line that descends to the water (detail photo 1).
As indicated by the writing on the back of the cardboard, this is a first study for the work with which the painter participated in the ASCOM prize in the 1960s (detail photo 2).
Alfredo D'angelo (Catania 1903 - Milan 1986) was an eclectic and brilliant artist, a unique figure of a painter very appreciated in his city of choice (Milan) and winner of numerous painting awards.
Detail photo 3 represents the raw wood framing we have suggested, provided on request.
