[…] Until today, there was no news of models or sketches connected to such a demanding assignment entrusted to Ricci. The discovery of the small model, the subject of this study, is a further, important piece in the analysis of Ricci's creative genesis. The sketch, complete and finished, of Susanna before Daniel further supports the study of his artistic path: faced with a work to be created in such imposing dimensions, Sebastiano submits his basic conception to his clients, underlining its structure but at the same time granting himself variants of great spontaneity and vigor: he traces a compositional idea from which he does not want to deviate, but at the same time he feels free to commute variants, to freely recreate gestures and poses, well aware that, once the general layout has been submitted to the client, nothing will prevent him from inserting...
